Can't share folders

This is driving me crazy!

I'm trying to set up a computer with WindowsXP Home to
share files with a WindowsMe computer, using the MN-700
router.

Both computers can see the name of the other computer in
My Network Places. However, none of the folders on either
computer can be viewed.

No firewall on either computer. Both computers can access
the Internet at the same time, through the MN-700. Pretty
sure sharing has been set up properly on some folders of
both computers.

Thanks for your help!

Eric

Dear Eric,

WinXP is pretty transparent. However, Win98 and WinMe
may not be so transparent. In the WinMe, check the
connection configuration to make sure that in all
occurrences, the workgroup name and SSID is the same as
all the other PCs on the network.

Sometimes, it takes patience and a couple of re-boots
until the pre-21st Century versions of Windows recognizes
the share. Start by simply IP addressing the WinMe share
from the WinXP via IE(i.e.,http://192.168.2.Me/Meshare).

This is a followup to my original post.

On the XP computer, I can now access folders and files that are on the WindowsMe computer.

However, On the WindowsMe computer using Windows Explorer, I can see the name of the XP computer, but I can not access its shared folders. Clicking on the name of the XP computer gives the message "\\NOTEBOOK is not available. No permission to access resource". Funny this is, doing Start/Run \\NOTEBOOK\csvs (that's a folder on the XP machine) brings up a Windows Explorer window with the files all listed, and the files CAN be accessed.

At Ken's suggestion, I tried entering http:/192.168.2.133/csvs in IE on the WinME machine. This produces the message "The connection was refused when attempting to contact 192.168.2.133"

Why can Windows Explorer not see the shared folders that are on the XP machine?

Thanks bunches!

Eric,

This has been a mystery to me too. I can see shares on
my Win98 PC from WinXP, but the Win98 cannot see shares
on the WinXP. At least I can share files.

Sorrry I can't get beyond this point :-(
