For the last 5weeks have been trying to setup a broadband wireless
connection, and about to
give up and stay on dialup.
XPHome SP2/DG834G Router Modem, please bear in mind I am not computer
literate.

Is it possible to make a complete fresh start, and run through the setup
again, would this
be recommended. Many thanks for any assistant given.

John,

Here are a few websites with useful tutorials:
http://www.cablesense.com/
http://www.homenethelp.com/
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/
http://www.wown.com/

If you can post some description of exactly what problem you're experiencing,
someone here can surely help you diagnose it.

You could start by providing ipconfig information for your computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste entire contents into
your next post.

You should divide it into two steps..

First establish working Broadband connection between the Modem Router and
one Wired computer.

Log to this page it has a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network
Settings, and Sharing: http://www.ezlan.net/Installing.html

Once it works take care of the Wireless.

Wireless - Basic Configuration: http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Config.html

Wireless - Basic Security: http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Security.html

Jack (MVP-Networking).

John,

1) Hit the Start button in your taskbar.
2) Hit Run.
3) Type "cmd" (less the "").
4) Hit the Enter key.
5) This will open a command window. Into the command window, type "ipconfig
/all >c:\ipconfig.txt" (again less the ""), and hit Enter.
6) Start Notepad.
7) Open C:\ipconfig.txt.
8) Select all text (Ctrl - A).
9) Copy selected text (Ctrl - C).
10) Migrate to this window, and Reply to this post.
11) Paste into your reply (Ctrl - V).

John,

Don't sweat it. If you're willing to ask for details, I'll give them to you.

Please try replying to this post, though. It's a lot easier to find our
conversation when you reply to me, and I reply to you...

With Notepad started, do File - Open. Look in C:\, find file ipconfig.txt, and
select it. Hit Open, and the file should open in the Notepad window.
