I have a printer on a home network. The host is W-XP. The
client, W98, can see the XP machine, but I can't add the
printer to the network. On the W98 machine I add the
printer as network, but when I click on the network name,
it doesn't see the printer.

Any ideas?

Make sure that the printer's share name isn't longer than 12
characters. If it is W98 can't see the printer.

Have you tried Sharing the printer on the Win98 Machine ( "Printer" must
have sharing enabled in network properties) , once done go to network
neigbourhood and you should now see the printer on both machines...

I've checked the sharing and I've changed the name of the
printer location on the XP machine so its less than 12
character (with no spaces). I still can't see the printer
on the W98 machine. I use the wizard and when I click on
the host computer, there is nothing there to add. I can
see the printer on the old (W98) machine but not on the
XP. I can see the transfer files, shared files but not
the printer.

Am just about to go for work..
When I return, I will install a printer on an XP machine and try to share it
over the network, then will do the same from a Win98 machine..

I will let you know what I encounter.. and if successful will give you a
step by step list of what I did..
Something doesnt sound quite right there at your end ...

BTW..If you changed the Share name after Sharing you will have to re-share
it!

Regards
Alan

Ok..

Dont know how you have got on, but heres the sequence-->

Log on to your computer that you CANT see the printer, using the user name
and password on the computer that has the printer conneceted to it.. go to
control Pannel --> Printers --> add printer --> next -->Network
printer -->next -> (click the appropiate yes or no for MS-DOS apps)
Browse-->> double click the computer that has the printer attached, and then
left click the printer and click OK. click next.. select your printer driver
from the list of drivers (or click have disk) click next ... follow the on
screen instructions and your done..

If you have already sorted it... good for you! LOL

Good luck
regards
Alan
