Can the computers ping the servers they can not see by name or IP address??
Can they connect to them by using \\computername\sharename or
\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\sharename where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP of the computer
with the share?? Are these computers all on the same network [no real
routers]? More than likely something has gone awry with the master browser.
One thing to also try is to disable the computer browser service on any
computer that has more than one nic or is a remote access server as any
master browser that is multihomed will usually provide problems with the
browse list. Since you rely on Network Places I would also use wins on the
network and make sure that the wins server and all other computers are wins
clients. Run nbtstat -n on the Windows 2003 Server to make sure it shows at
least three registered netbios names. Any enabled personal or built in
firewalls will cause problems with the browse list. The link below may be
helpful. -- Steve
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;188305 -- "browstat
status" will display master browser.
