We have a multihomed 2003 server with two USB NICs.
Yesterday, we disabled Local Network Connection 1. I am
trying to enable it now, but the LAN 1 icon is not there.
The Hardware device doesn't show it. Rebooting the server
and unplugging/replugging the NIC, it doesn't show up. Any
suggestions?

It won't show the connection until it actually detects the hardware
properly. Troubleshooting it will like (as bad as) troubleshooting any other
USB device issue. I think the idea of a USB based nic is the worst idea
anyone has thought of to date,...it's about like inventing a boat made of
brick so it would be weather-proof.
