I can't post a message greater than approx 1k. I can delete one
character at a time until it posts. These are plain text posts.
I've tried Pan, slrn, and Mozilla, with the same results. I have
a desktop and this laptop, both running Debian r3. These are wired
to a Linksys 4 port router. The router is wired to a DSL modem.

Suggestions?

It doesn't belong in a Linux networking newsgroup, but what is the error
indication or message you're getting that makes you say "I can't ..."?

tcpdump -i eth0

Total size of largest message (including application headers) that can
be successfully posted?

Sounds like it might be a PPPoE MTU, usually 1492, versus Ethernet MTU,
usually 1500, problem. BS is probably using PPPoE, so if the Ethernet
MTU on the hosts is 1500 then try setting it to 1492.
