Hey There,
REALLY need some help. Installed server 2003 and can't
ping any workstations, but the workstations can ping the
server. I am running WINXP on the laptop and Server 2003
on the desktop. Basically want to use the desktop as a
file server. I am running an ADSL wireless connection
with a linksys WRT54G router, which is then plugged into
an Alcatel ADSL modem. I have taken off the XP firewall.
Am i doing something wrong?

Someone please help!

did you set the server to have a static ip address? did you exclude this
address from the router dhcp server? this is probably not your problem, but
it is good practice.
are you trying to ping by ip address or computer name? try both - which
fails? if ip address, then there is possibly a firewall or security settings
issue. if by computer name, then there is possibly a name-resolution issue.
you may want to consider enabling wins on the 2k3 server. it is a pretty
straight-forward service, not too complicated and it should make
name-resolution on your network a lot more reliable; however, to enable wins
the server must have a static ip.
you can email me if you need more detailed info.
