Can't ping gateway but localhost

Hi,

I am new to this world and jus installed linux. i got a problem with
network settings. i have given an ip address and gateway to my eth0
while installing linux. after finishing installation i tried to add a
static route for a any destination saying

network : 0.0.0.0
mask: 0.0.0.0
gateway : my gateway IP ( Router)

when i tried to save this by clicking APPLY button its giving an
error. saying that this might be a bug and suggested me to report it
at redhat bugzilla.

more over i am not able ping my gateway. i am able to self ping to
local host and my IP.
i am able to view all the routes in routing table and result of
ifconfig command is ok.

plz help me solve this problem.

Hmm. What "apply" button? Where?

What does your routing table look like ('route -n')? What happens if you try
to install the route by hand ('route add default gw gateway_address', where
gateway_address should be replaced with your gateway address).
