Can't obtain address from Windows 2003 Server DHCP

Hi,

I have a notebook computer on which I just formatted the hard drive and did
a clean install of Windows XP Pro. I did this at home where I connected it
to my router which is connected to a DSL modem. In my network configuration,
I configured TCP/IP to obtain an address automatically. With this setup, I
was able to get on the Internet with no problem.

I brought this notebook to work and connected it to our network. Now I am
not able to connect to the internet. I get Event ID 1003 (Source DHCP) which
says "Your computer was not able to renew its address (from the DHCP) server
for the network card with network address 000D56385BCD. The following error
occurred: the semaphore timeout period has expired. Your computer will
continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address
DHCP server.

My DHCP server is running Windows 2003 server. I am able to ping the IP
address of this server from the notebook. On this server, I verified that
the DHCP server is running. The address pool has 21 available addresses of
which only 17 are assigned. I looked in the event viewer and did not see any
errors or warnings referring to DHCP. I am not having a problem getting on
the internet from any other computers on this network.

If anyone can give me a clue why I am not able to obtain an IP address on
this notebook, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Paul

Did you try to force it to get an IP at work:

open a command prompt: Start > Run > cmd
type in the command prompt: > ipconfig /release
and then > ipconfig /renew

What's happening: post the message.

Thanks
