Can't install SP2, but want WLAN upgrade

I've been trying for days now to install SP2 on my XP system with the only
result being many re-formats (here's the problem
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...g=en&cr=US&p=1 )

My question is, is there a way to get the WLAN upgrade (where I can see info
on WiFi like signal strength and if it's protected) without SP2? I use the
computer on the road and it'd be nice to see stuff like that, but SP2 seems
to be out of the question and I haven't been able to find an update anywhere.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm quoting from your post at the link above:

"The only issue I've had is I think a part of the HDD is corrupt, so
instead of a 20GB partition, I'm running a 14GB partition. Last time I
did this, everything ran fine (installed lots of software) and I didn't
have a problem until I tried to install SP2."

This is not normal and should be addressed. Take the machine to a
professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigStoreUSA) or if the laptop is still under warranty, get a new hard
drive from Toshiba. You need to get whatever is causing this
"corruption" (your word) fixed and the proper size of the hard drive
seen. It could also be the memory, which should be tested.

You cannot get the SP2 WLAN upgrade without SP2.
