I have a Win98SE computer on a wireless network with a WinXPSP2 computer.
The router and cable modem and printers are all attatched to the Win XPSP2
computer. I just attached a HP Laserjet 1320 printer to the XP machine.
When I tried to install the HP Laserjet 1320 as a new network printer on the
Win98SE machine, it asked me to identify the manufacturer and the model of
the printer, but all the HP models listed were made years ago and the HP
Laserjet 1320 is not on the list. How can I complete the add new printer
process on the Win 98SE machine so that it can see and use the HP Laserjet
1320 attached to the WinXPSP2 machine? Thanks for your help.

You need to install it as a networked printer, not a local printer; and
install the Windows 98 drivers on the Windows XP computer using the option
on the printer sharing tab in Windows XP.

Richard,

Is the HP LaserJet 1320 even networkable? I purchased an HP LaserJet
1012, networked it, had difficulties, it resulted in a support call to
HP, and they said that printer won't work as a shared printer. Now
I'm in the market for a new LaserJet, I see the 1320, and I'm
wondering if it will work when it's shared on a network; the
descriptions I see don't say either way. If my best bet is to call
HP, so be it, but I just wanted to see if someone has any insight, or
if there's a site that lists all printers that do/don't network. I
hope this info helps TLMcGrew, too. Thank you!

It looks to be networkable, since a JetDirect network card is an option for
the printer. :-)

Right, it's an OPTION. So let's say I don't get the 1320n, I just get
the base 1320. I go to the office, install it to my computer like the
instructions tell me to, share it on our network as HP1320, then
what?? Will it work, or will it be sketchy? That's the problem I had
with the 1012; it was sketchy, and that was because HP told me it
doesn't like to be a shared printer on a small network. Am I making
any sense at all? Until recently, I assumed that ALL printers were
sharable on a network using Windows XP Pro, but with the my latest
findings, I have to question that assumption. Have I described this
scenario any better? Thank you for your response!

If you're asking me to guarantee it will work, I can't. Sorry.

Hi

I think all printers are sharabel in the network.(I have naver came across
a one). Even you dont have a jet derct card you can conect the printer to
the server fron LPT port and put the softwares to the server and right clik
on the printer and go to sharing and shar the printer.
then go to the client computer and find the server (Printer atach
computer). right clik on the shard printer & click install (If it ask for
drivers Ither you have to put in to the server or to the client to install
the printer)

That's okay. I guess if you were to gaurantee it's workability, I'd
still question you, so I guess it's a rhetorical question after all.
I'll ask HP directly, but doesn't it seem "silly" that I'm asking if
networking will work for a laserjet printer? Oh well. Thank you for
responding to my questions!

I agree, I think they should all be as well. I don't know if there
are any "issues" with newer printers because they use USB ports to
connect to a computer instead of parallel. I don't know.
