I'm running Windows XP on one machine and Suse Linux 9.1 on another. The
Linux box automatically detected the Windows machine and showed shared
folders in the network browser. But my Windows computer didn't see my Linux
computer. So I went into the YAST configuration utility and turned on the
Samba server. The Windows machine could now see my shared Linux folders.
But now, the Linux box can't see the Windows machine. All I did was turn on
the Samba server, but it seems to have screwed up something else. Any
ideas? Thanks.

two things:
1 - Get the Samba Howto book from the internet!
2 - Read it!

it will tell you how to configure your windows shares and linux smb.conf
file in order to view everything. It is WAY TO COMPLICATED to drill
through everything one line at a time here, and you cant afford my
consulting fees over the net. :^)

Cause he isn't in the same workgroup? And what "Windows computer" is it and
what Samba version you have? Why you didn't show us your smb.conf?

Maybe this is your mistake. Better to read and write in the smb.conf. YaST
cannot do all the stuff smb.conf is belonging to.

Are you sure, the damons nmbd and smbd both are running?

> Any ideas?

Of course. But without a look to your smb.conf all ideas have to be inclosed
in the famous "Glaskugel"

man samba
www.samba.org

and if that is too much for you to read:

www.microsoft.com and purchse a copy of Windows XP.

If you want to be spoon fed use Windows, if you are interested in using
Linux you MUST PRECISELY read the documentation.
There simply is no other way.
