Hello
I have a problem getting a dynamic ip address from my ISP. It is working in
my local network (where the DHCP server has an IP in the 192.168.0.* range,
but when trying to get one from my ISP my computer does not seem to accept
any packets from Internet.
Looking on the status for the connection I can see that 193 packets are sent
but none are received. I was talking to my ISP support about this and
according to them the DHCP server gets the request for an IP address and
sends it to my computer but it does not accept it.
Initially my configuration was Windows XP Pro with SP2 and no firewall,
neither external, internal nor 3rd party. I tried to enable the internal
firewall and also the logging of dropped packets giving the following result:
2004-12-14 22:22:18 DROP UDP 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 68 67 328 - - - - - - -
....
....
....
Apparently the firewall is dropping the packets from the DHCP server, but it
behaves the same way when the firewall is disabled.
After that I reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP1 but the problem is still there.
My computer is a Compaq nx9010 and my NIC is a National Semiconductor Corp.
DP83815 10/100 MacPhyter PCI Adapter.
Additionally, I have managed to get dynamic IP addresses from my ISP to my
linux box and to my Netgear wireless router so I'm quite sure the problem
lies within my Windows machine.
Any help is extremely appreciated
Best regards
