Can't find my wireless network on my desktop

I have a wireless network running on a Cisco WRT54G router. My laptop can
connect to it just fine as can my music link which connects to my stereo. My
problem is that there is no little connection icon on my system tray, the
wireless networks tab does not appear under network connections - although
the router does appear under my network places. On my laptop, I have the
little bars icon showing signal strength as well as a little monitor icon
with waves going out indicting the presence of the network - neither appears
on my desktop. My neighbor is having trouble getting his wireless network up
and running and asked me to see if it shows up on my wireless networks on my
desktop. I am also curious, because at least two other networks show up on
my laptop - but I cannot find any place to show what connections are
available on my desktop. Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Dan

Hi
Your laptop seems to be running the original Wireless' manufacturer utility
that it set to show this things.

Is the desktop Wireless? If it connects by wire, it would not show the
Wireless Connections.

In general, Windows would show the Network icon if the Show Icon is checked
in the computer Local LAN connections Properties.

See here in the lower left side, http://www.ezlan.net/example/

If you want to be able to help, your self and your neighbor educate yourself
about Wireless Networking.

May be this can Help, http://www.ezlan.net/#Wireless

Jack,

The first link you listed gives me a "forbidden" error message when I try to
access it. Any other way to see what you were sending me to?

Thanks, Dan
