I am having a problem with file sharing. I have one XP home machine and one
win 98 machine. It seems that whenever I shut down the machines and restart,
I only have a one way file sharing available. The last machine to start up
is not able to see the files on the first machine to start. But the first
machine to start is able to see files on the last machine to start. The
internet connections on both machines are running fine.

I am running client for microsoft, tcp/ip and ips/xps compatible protocols.

anybody have any ideas?

Gord

It can take up to 15 minutes for network browsing (My Network Places
and Network Neighborhood) to work after a computer starts up.

During that time, you should be able to access the other computer
directly by typing its name in the Start | Run box in this format:

\\computer

Using more than one protocol can make network browsing unreliable,
especially when XP is involved. If you don't have a specific need for
IPX/SPX (e.g. for networked games), remove it from both computers. If
you need IPX/SPX, choose one protocol for file sharing and un-bind
file sharing from the other one. I've written a web page with
details:

If a network doesn't work using TCP/IP as the only protocol, the most
likely problem is that a firewall on one or both computers is blocking
access. See this web page:
