can't connect via ssh as a normal user

I'm trying to connect to a computer I used to be able to connect to via
ssh. Connecting as root works, but not as a normal user.
ssh checks the password (if I type a wrong password it says so) but when
the password is accepted, I get:
Connection to remote_box closed by remote host.
Connection to remote_box closed.

I checked the log/secure on remote_box: the password was accepted by ssh.

Does anyone know what's wrong ?

Obviously not, since you don't mention what the setup is of the ssh
server and client, what exactly was the occasion that caused this to
stop working, or even whether you've parsed any relevant documentation.

Read logs.
Increase logging level.
Read more logs.
