Hi! Is anyone else having problems pinging and/or connecting to definitions.symantec.com (from
http://securityresponse.symantec.com...es/US-N95.html) to download NAV
definition EXEs daily) in Linux lately?

Box #1 (my own Linux/Debian box (Kernel 2.6.15)):
$ wget http://definitions.symantec.com/defs...14-020-i32.exe
--20:19:40-- http://definitions.symantec.com/defs...14-020-i32.exe
=> `20060414-020-i32.exe'
Resolving definitions.symantec.com... failed: Name or service not known.
$ dig definitions.symantec.com

; > DiG 9.3.2 > definitions.symantec.com
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER>> Last update of whois database: Fri, 14 Apr 2006 23:23:34 EDT ping
definitions.symantec.com
Pinging a568.d.akamai.net [80.67.66.55] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 80.67.66.55: bytes=32 time=28ms TTL=47
[ctrl-c'ed]

Box #2 (my friend's old RedHat Linux box a DSL connection on mminternet.com):
$ ping definitions.symantec.com
ping: unknown host definitions.symantec.com

Box #3 (my friend's PPC Debian; Kernel 2.6.16; Speakeasy's DSL):
$ ping definitions.symantec.com
ping: unknown host definitions.symantec.com

Notes: Box #2 and #3 are run by Linux experts. All boxes and ISPs are in or near Los Angeles,
CA, USA area.

What the heck? Does anyone know what's going on? It has been like this yesterday and today
(now).

Thank you in advance.

Works just fine from Germany...

$ wget http://definitions.symantec.com/defs...14-020-i32.exe
Resolving definitions.symantec.com... 62.153.251.200,

70% [===============> ] 7,967,144 670.40K/s ETA 00:05

Probably a local and/or temporary problem.

Good news, everyone. It seems to be have resolved itself. No idea what happened since none of the
boxes were touched to fix.

$ ping definitions.symantec.com
PING a568.d.akamai.net (216.52.219.176) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 216.52.219.176: icmp_seq=1 ttl=51 time=30.3 ms

I am still puzzled on what happened the last few days.

Yes, from Italy.
It has been going for two or three days now.
The address is not resolved, as you say.
