Hi,

I have the above problem with the following 3 machine
network, as setup as follows

they are all connected by a DLink broadband wireless router/hub.

A:Windows Server 2003 machine:
-domain controller = yes
-domain name="LOCAL"
-dhcp server = yes
-dns server = yes
-file sharing installed.

B:Windows XP Pro Laptop:
-set up to logon to domain "LOCAL"
-set up to use A as DHCP server. works fine.
-set up to use A as DNS server works fine.
-file sharing installed.
-works fine. can browse network.

C:Windows XP Home desktop:
-single user logon.
-set up to use A as dns server. names are resolved ok.
-static IP.
-workgroup set up as "LOCAL"
-file sharing installed.
-cannot browse network get error message
"LOCAL is not accessible. You may not have permission ....etc
The server list for the workgroup could not be obtained"

A can see B
B can see A
C can't see A
C can't see B

ok, update on the above problem.
Managed to solve it . Turned out that Windows
Firewall was turned on on the XP home machine.
Turning it off fixed it.

Except......

it should have worked in its original state since
File and Print Sharing was enabled in the exceptions
tab. Seems like there might be a problem with
Windows firewall.

Anyone had any similar experiences.

Mark

Yes but you can have file and print sharing without NetBIOS.
NetBIOS is responsible for enumerating the browse list.

so how can I enable NetBIOS on the Windows Firewall exceptions
tab. i.e what port numbers does it use.

Enabling file and printer sharing should open all the ports needed.
