Cant browse in Network Places

I setup a Windows 2003 server Domain and have only 1 workstation joined to
the domain. the problem that i'm having is that i cant see both pc's from my
network places. when i click on entire network/microsoft netork/ i can see
my domain. When i click in the domain, it doesnt show any pc's. file and
print sharing is enabled. does anybody know what it could be? does group
policy have an option to disable this type of browsing?

use net share command to check local sharing and use net view \\remotehost command to check the remote computer sharing. post back with any errors.

thanks for the reply, but everything is solved now . the problem was that Netbios over TCP/IP was disabled. from what i gatherd My Network places is available because the computer browser service builds it. It is a hold over from the days of NT using NetBIOS names and LAN broadcasts. So i'm guessing that network places builds its list from netbios broadcasts.everything is good to go now. however, i'm trying to enable netbios over tcp/ip in the dhcp server options, but i cant seem to get it. would you happen to know how to do that? i would like it so that all my clients are automaticaly configured with netbios over tcpip from dhcp

That's the default setting.

How did you determine NetBIOS over TCP/IP was disabled?
Was it a Service setting, in the NIC's properties or something else?
Is that on the DC and/or on the workstations?

Are there any other services disabled (either intentionally or
unintentionally?
Any Event viewer errors?

i disabled netbios over tcp/ip because i thought that i didnt need it due to
the fact the i don't have any legacy clients installed on the network. I had
disabled the service on both the server and the workstation. that was the
only service that i had disabled and there werent any errors in the logs.

I see, and now you want to change it back. I assume you have many users and
it's not practical for you to walk around and reset it to default?

I can suggest using a tool such as Advanced Registry Tracer (ART). Take a
snapshot of a workstation with ART, then change the NetBIOS setting, then
take another snapshot and create a difference file. That will be the reg
portion that got changed. Then you can apply that using regini.exe or in a
VB script during logon to run and apply it to the workstations.

Yes, you need NetBIOS over TCP/IP or WINS server for network browsing. Assuming all your clients setup default of NetBIOS settings under WINS and you have WINS server, you should add DHCP Scope 044 WINS/NBNS server and 046 WINS/NB node type.
