Can't access P2P Network after removing ICS

I have a Win98SE workstation that can't see the P2P network after the ICS
was removed from the "server" and a direct cable connection was established.
Running the Connection Wizard doesn't resolve the issue. Removing and
re-installing the Client for Microsoft Networks doesn't work either. Does
anyone know if there are files that must be removed from the workstation in
order to establish a connection to the P2P network and Cable Internet?

What do you mean by "direct cable connection"? Have you connected the
computers to each other using Ethernet adapters, serial ports, or
parallel ports?

You can't make a direct Ethernet connection between two computers (no
hub, switch, or router) using a regular Ethernet cable. You need a
crossover Ethernet cable, which reverses the transmit and receive
wires between the ends.

Crossover cables are available at computer and office supply stores.
This site has information on how to wire a crossover cable:

I do the workstations connected to a hub. There are 4 workstations, all
running Win98SE. Three don't have any problem "seeing" the P2P network or
with Internet access. The one workstation with the problem can't "see" any
computers, even itself in Network Neighborhood. I've even connected it
directly to the Cable Internet Modem and can't establish an Internet
connection.
