Hi
In the last week or so, me and my mate have been having problems getting
onto certain site.
We both have a sar715+ and are both on nildram 1mb lines.
The problem we are having is when we go to certain websites we are getting
dns error messages.
Before last week, we both could connect to these sites without any problems.
We can still access most sites.
The websites that we have found that we are having problems are www.hp.com
www.adobe.com and a few others.

I used network-tools.com to do a trace on www.hp.com and got this
TraceRoute to 192.6.234.9 [www.hp.com]

Hop (ms) (ms) (ms) IP Address Host name

I did a tracert thing in dos and got this

tracing route to www.hpgtm.speedera.net [192.6.165.40]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 <1 ms <1ms <1ms 192.168.7.1
2 * 192.168.7.1 reports destination host unreachable.
Trace complete

practically the same results for www.adobe.com

i am using these as my dns servers 213.208.106.212
213.208.106.213
I have tried the old nildram one to but no luck there either

Any ideas
Thanks
Gareth

p.s i have posted this on the solwise forum as well to see if i can get
answers there

At a guess you have your network addresses set to 192.x.y.z and subnet mask
255.0.0.0 so these sites beginning 192 look local. Change your subnet mask
to 255.255.255.0 and give it a try.

My guess is that you are running a personal firewall that is doing NAT
(network address translation) and the IP of your host from which you
are trying to access HP and Adobe from has the IP of 192.x.x.x (or
192.168.x.x).

The 192.168.x.x is an IP space used for testing and gets used often as
a private IP space behind NAT devices. More then likely you have set
your netmask incorrectly. Your netmask should be 255.255.0.0 but I
would say yours is most likely set to 255.0.0.0

This causes your PC to send all packets to 192.x.x.x to the local
network rather then your default gateway. As a result, you can't hit
any web site who's IP begins with 192 (which both HP and Adobe's do).

To see your netmask you can go into the networking properties (depends
on OS). On most windows boxes you can do an ‘ipconfig /all' from a
command prompt. On a Unix box you could try ‘ifconfig –a'.

Strange our ISP says the subnet should be 255.255.255.148
but having said that having seen your ref to 0.0 and changed mine to
this setting web pages are loading twice has quick .
