cannot sign onto network

W98 workstation. I can get onto the network from my
station but not in the office it needs to be in. Checked
the nic cord and outlet the office it needs to be in with
my laptop and the laptop can see the network fine.

Tried changing the name of the computer to the new user
and even the IP address but still will not respond. The
warranty is long since out (Gateway 2000 computer). Any
suggestions?
