Need to remote access a performance log on a windows XP SP2 in the same LAN
but failed. XP firewall is off. File and Printing sharing is on. Audited the
logon. The event says that

Unknow user name or bad password.
Event Type: Failure Audit
Event Source: Security
Event Category: Logon/Logoff
Event ID: 529
Date: 10/20/2006
Time: 7:13:37 AM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: XPCLIENT
Description:
Logon Failure:
Reason: Unknown user name or bad password
User Name: administrator
Domain: 192.168.220.131
Logon Type: 3
Logon Process: NtLmSsp
Authentication Package: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0
Workstation Name: xxxxx

Both machines are in the WORKGROUP. What should I do to make the remote
access possible? Many thanks.

Hello,

you must have the same login/password on the 2 XP!
If that is not enough, you will have to type "RemoteXPName\administrator" to
authenticate on the remote computer.

Bye.
