Hi all

At the moment I have an issue with ping/ RDC to the new member server with
Wins 2003 R2 64 Bit.
The server used to be a File server with Wins 2003 32 bit installed, and it
was pefect fine. We just fresh installed Wins 2003 R2 64 bit on this server.
And we can't ping to this server, only DNS server can ping and RDC at all
times.
From this server we can ping to anyone as well as 127.0.0.1 (testing the NIC).

We have re-installed the Wins twice.
On the server there are two NICs and both's behaviour is the same.
We have re-installed the TCP/IP.

Further notice: one day we can ping/RDC to this server, next day we can't at
all, it is kind of intermittence issue.

Any help would be appreciated

Regards

Hello vdz,

Make sure that you have the newest drivers for the NIC. Please post an unedited
ipconfig /all from the problem machine and one from a running machine.

Hello vdz,

Sometimes i saw problems when servers with Gigabit ethernet adapters are
set to autonegotiation instead of fixed speed with the switches. If your
NIC drivers are up to date i would truy this.

Thank you very much Meinolf

With driver up-to-date, I'm trying to get updated one from ACER website but
I have been struggling with that. I just installed the driver from the disc
that came with the server we bought 3 years ago.

The problem server one has 2 NICs and they're all Intell PRO/1000, not
Gigabit adapte. I'll give it a try (fixed speed).

Cheers

Hello vdz,

Intell PRO/1000 = Gigabit or typo and you mean 100? Anyway, some switches
have problems with the speed if not fixed. And if your drivers 3 years old
i would look for updated ones.

My apologies. I meant 1000 = Gigabit.
I've been looking for the updated driver one, but ACER seems to be a
diffcult one unlike the other vendors.
Thought I'ld keep you updated anyway. As yesterday I changed to the fixed
speed, but the issue still persists.

Cheers
