Dear Friends,
I am going through a strange problem here. I upgraded
one of my 2000 server to win2003. after the upgardation
some of the computers cannot ping this server, but they
are able to ping any other servers. Other computers are
able to ping any server on the network including this.
Similar problem occured with me last week, when i
upgrded one another server to Win2003,but i dont know how
it got solved automatically, because next day i found that
all were able to ping the server.
Any guidance or help will be highly appreciated.
Looking forward to your support.
Regards
Burhan M

Burhan...

Is it safe to assume you mean they cannot ping by name and not IP? If you
cannot ping by name, then it is a DNS issue. If you cannot ping by IP, it
is a connectivity issue. Also, ping by computerName vs FQDN are different.
The former relates to NetBIOS and the latter relates to TCP/IP.

If it IS naming, then showing the ipconfig /all of the server and the
workstations with the problem will help.

If you cannot ping by address, then you have a connectivity issue which may
be hardware related but could also be an interconnectivity device or a
driver. Did you upgrade your NIC driver when you upgraded the NOS... and
reapply SPs and OEM drivers?

I'm assuming when you cannot ping you lose all connectivity, rather than you
just cannot ping. Can you confirm?
