I'm having trouble getting my Linux box running properly. It is
Mandrake 9.1 distro. Here's the deal

- I cannot ping myself, either with localhost, 127.0.0.1, or the
machine's IP address. It doesn't time out or give me any response at
all, just hangs until I give it ^C
- I can ping another workstation on my subnet, as well as hit our web
server.
- I cannot ping the linux box from another station on the same subnet.
- I've made sure my /etc/hosts file is correct. And it works, as I
can ping the workstations by the name I defined. Just not myself.
- I made sure in the mandrake firewall that
'accept_broadcasted_icmp_echo' and 'accept_icmp_echo' were both set to
yes.

I'm going to need this for tftp and dhcp services, so I need to get
whatever is blocking the access turned off. Any help or advice will
be greatly appreciated.

Slightly more precisely : check the route table.

How can you tell that? (I'd bet it *isn't* a routing problem.)

All you can really do is provide an answer that is exactly as
ambiguous as the question.
