Cannot ping DC server

I have 4 servers all on the same subnet. I have promoted 1 server to be a
domain controller with AD. All servers are W2003 Servers with SP1 and latest
updates. I am trying to join one of the servers to the domain but receive a
timeout message. When I ping the server I also receive a timeout. But, I
can ping the other servers and receive replies just fine. So, does promoting
a server as a DC close some network capabilities. My DC is a Windows 2003
Server (Standard version) whereas my other servers are W2003 Enterprise Ed.
Could this have anything to do with it? The DC came with Standard version
already installed. I had installed Ent. Ed. on my other servers some time
ago. I was told the versioning differences shouldn't cause any problems.

(Sorry for the cross posting with DNS group but I would bet I set up DNS
just fine. It's now another issue).

Thanks,
Johnny

Good question, sorry I did not anticipate that question, no, the firewall is
not enabled.

When I go to Control Panel/Windows Firewall, it tells me "Windows Firewall
cannot run b/c another program or service is running that might use the
network address translation component (Ipnat.sys)."

Seth, you are DA MAN!!!!!! I had no clue what RRAS was so I searched the
help topics. RRAS (Routing and Remote Access Service) must have been
installed by default from the factory. This is the only server that I have
not installed the OS myself and that's why in my DNS post when asked about
firewalls I said I did not have one installed unless there was something
installed by default. I see RRAS has some form of a basic firewall as one of
its components. As soon as I stopped the RRAS service, I was able to ping
the server and then join it to my domain. I bet Ace would like to kill me
but I had no clue........

If I have a NAT router in front of all my servers, should I just remove this
service? Or, will it have value and just try to configure it to work with my
domain?

Thanks for the help!!!
Johnny

No value,...that I can see. NAT Devices are for running on the Network Edge
that separate it from the Public Internet.
