Cannot navigate across sites

Windows explorer cannot navigate across sites.

I have two sites site a and site b. On each end I have a Win2K3 Std domain
controller. Site b connects to site a via vpn. Running across the vpn I have
DFS configured to replicate some folders. AD is also replicating with no
problems. I would like to be able to see the server and client shares from
site a on site b and visa versa. All clients are Windows XP and all servers
are Win2K3 Std. Some the PC’s are in a workgroup. Site a is on 192.168.0.0
network and site b is on 192.168.1.0 network.

The a site server is running AD, dns, dhcp, file, print, application, RAAS,
and WINS.
The b site server is running AD, dns, dhcp, file, print, application, and
WINS.

Currently the only way I can see one site to another is by entering its UNC
path \\serverb in Windows explorer. I can only see the server on the other
end no PC’s. The net view command just lists the site computers and servers
from where the command was run (On that site). The netdiag and dcdiag reports
run clean.

DNS lists reverse lookup zones for both subnets on sites a and b. I assume
DNS is correct since both sites are replicating and no errors are being
reported.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance. My server and
network skills could be considered to be intermediate.

You might want to consider deploying WINS.

Thanks Paul, Since I have WINS running on the dc in site a and b your
suggesting that I setup replication between them? Anything else?

If you have it running on both sides already yes setting up replication
between them would do it.

OK, I have set up the WINS servers to replicate (Push/Pull) with each other
and I can see all computer names listed on both sites in WINS. However, site
a cannot see systems on site b. From site a a unc path can be established to
the dc server on site b only. From site b a unc path can be established to
the dc server, domain pc's and workgroup pc's. I can ping by name and ip
address from site b to site a. I cannot ping by ip or name from site a to
domain pc's or workgroup pc's only to the dc. Although this is true it will
give the correct ip when i ping by name from site a to a pc on site b I
receive Request timed out from my ping. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks for your posts.

I was assuming your routing was OK, but if I interpret the below
correctly it sounds like your routing is not 100%

Let me rephrase:

Even when you ping to an (known) IP address from site a to site b, you
get no response?

Hey your totaly correct. Now that I re-read what I wrote that seems to be an
issue. However, that had been working. Nslookup returns the correct IP
address when I type in the name and it returns the correct IP when I type in
the name from site a. Weird. When I ping the name from site a the return
address is the ppp address on the remote site b dc interface. What should I
look at to correct the situation?

Thank you for your time.
