A followup on my previous message:
I noticed another element that could be the possible problem.
The Node Type is listed as "Unknown" on the desktop but "Mixed" on the
laptop.
Using regedit, I see in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE|SYSTEM|CurrentControlSet|Servic es|NetBT|Parameters
there is "DhcpNodeType" set to 4 in the laptop, BUT there is no such entry
in the Desktop's registry file. When I created one on the desktop and
rebooted, now the desktop could see neither computer. So I deleted it but
that seemed to have messed something up because now "my Network Places"
shows my workgroup but the entire workgroup is now inaccessible! That is not
computers appear in it (listed as not accessible) even though the desktop
can find itself in a computer name search, but not find the laptop.
How do I get back to where I was and get a wireless LAN working?
Thanks. (Sorry to post separately)
