you are welcome just to let you know this is how my satellite network is
shared at the cottage my network router has 8 ports having 6 routers
hang from it that goes to 6 other cottages to support them 1 port for
wireless hookup and one local router for my cottage. not a bad system

are you looking for site survey from Microsoft network connection with a
hard wire to network or from a computer with wireless connection which
will give you a different view of your network

Since you know the router's gateway address, why not do the obvious and
shut the other router down (just for the duration of this exercise) to
avoid the conflict? After you've allowed the PC you're going to use to
get a new lease from the SMCWTVG, you should be able to access and log
into its configuration pages and make the necessary changes.

I made a LAN cable connection the SMCWTVG, used my browser to go to
the 192.168.2.1 SMCWTVG router page, entered the password, and was
taken to the "Wireless Client" page by default. There, I pressed the
"Site Survey" button so that the SMCWTVG could scan to find networks
in the area. Under normal circumstances it should find my 192.168.0.1
router located upstairs (and any other networks in the area). I should
then be able to select my router as the preferred network and set its
WEP key to allow my router to give the SMCWTVG an IP address on my
192.168.0.1 network. From there I would enter my VOIP SIP credentials
on the appropriate 192.168.2.1 web page and hook up my telephone to
the SMCWTVG. The problem is that the SMCWTVG can't find *any* networks
anywhere.

I emailed SMC tech support and, as with the telephone support, they
told me my SMCWTVG was too old for support, but they did describe how
to reset it to get the Site Survey to work. Unfortunately, the scan
still failed to find any networks in spite of several carefully
followed resets. My laptop's wireless NIC always finds at least two
networks.

I think I messed things up by upgrading the firmware because I
distinctly remember the Site Survey working before I upgraded.
Unfortunately I chose to start over before upgrading and didn't save
the survey results. Big mistake. Resetting the SMCWTVG did not restore
the original firmware. I tried Googling to find a copy of the original
firmware, to no avail.

The unknown eBay seller from Asia has made it clear that I won't be
getting a replacement, so I'm not going to waste more time on it. I've
already ordered another hardware ATA, this time from Amazon. Again I'd
like to thank all who replied for their assistance.

Thanks for your reply. The problem above sorted itself out after I
used a safety pin to reset the SMCWTVG. It found my LAN cable
connection and I was able to get to the 192.168.2.1 web page again.
However, as described in another post, other misfortunes got in the
way of my success so I abandoned the SMCWTVG ATA for a WiFi SIP phone
(which I mistakenly referred to as a hardware ATA in a previous post)
that I expect to receive at any moment. I've used that WiFi phone
before and *know* that it is capable of finding my network.

Thanks again, but I've turned my focus to the new WiFi phone I ordered
(it's not an ATA), and it should arrive any day now. WiFi phones are
designed to connect with a wireless router so I don't expect there to
be any setup issues with it.
