Cannot get to router web page

I misconfigured my SMCWTVG wireless ATA router and now I can't get to
its 192.168.2.1 web page to reset it. I simply wanted to have the
SMCWTVG connect wirelessly to our main router upstairs and use the
SMCWTVG as an ATA access point.

Instead, I mistakenly set the SMCWTVG as a gateway and set its default
gateway IP to 192.168.0.124, which places it within the IP range of
the upstairs router, which has a 192.168.0.1 web page address. To make
matters worse, I left DHCP enabled on the SMCWTVG but it can only
acquire addresses in the 192.168.2.x range.

When I try to make a wired connection to the SMCWTVG by giving the LAN
NIC an IP, subnet, and default gateway address, I get a "...multiple
default gateways.." error. Can someone help me find a way to reset the
SMCWTVG so I can start over again? Thanks.

Have you checked the manufacturer's web site for that model to see if there
are instructions there on how to factory reset the router? Almost all home
routers I have seen have a (usually recessed) reset switch that you need to
use (often with a straightened paperclip, while holding your left ear,
holding the reset down for 3 seconds, while powering up the device...... or
some such witchcraft)

Thanks for your reply. I called SMC tech support but they said the
model is too old for support. There is a pinhole on one end of the
device so I'll try your suggestion.

lol - in the time it took them to tell you that the model is too old for
support, they could have explained how to reset it! What wankers. In case my
previous post was too tongue-in-cheek (it was only meant to be a little that
way), if you insert the pointy end of a paperclip you can usually feel that
you are clicking a 'micro switch' ... usually, if you hold that down while
you power ON the device it should reset itself to the factory settings. Then
the original manual ought to be helpful. Note you may have to then flash the
latest firmware on the device too (let's hope the aforementioned wankers
still have that file around!)

best of luck

OK if you do an ipconfig you will get the ip and gateway

then go to the gateway given regardless of your error you will get the
setup page
login change whatever setting you want to change

or get the pin out I recommend 10 seconds of a push while powering it up
will reset to defaults or if you hold it for 3 minutes it will reset the
password to default and do a full reconfig and clean

A big thanks to you again for your much needed reset suggestion. It
worked and I was eventually able to set the SMCWTVG as an access
point. However, my Netgear router isn't picking up the SMCWTVG
wirelessly. I'll expound more on that issue in reply to another poster
to offered valued assistance related to using ipconfig.

Another poster resolved the reset issue. After disconnecting and
reconnecting the LAN cable to the SMCWTVG, I did as you suggested and
ran an ipconfig /all and found that the SMCWTVG had reset itself
perfectly and had given the LAN NIC an appropriate IP. I was able to
get to 192.168.2.1 to set the access point mode, the SSID and WEP key.
However, although the wireless light is turned on, the SMCWTVG does
not show up as a wireless device on the Netgear wireless access web
page. I'm going to go back to the SMCWTVG manual to see if there's
something I missed in the setup. Thanks again to all who replied.

does any N class routers show up because they will over ride and hide
your router

Ok if you have two routers set up the first one which has been done with
a dhcp range lets say starting at 100-1xx what ever range you want set

DISCONNECT THE SECOND ROUTER FROM THE FIRST FOR NEXT STAGE

your second router up with a default gateway of 192.168.2.2 and with a
dhcp range of 10-99

no go back to the first router under static settings set 192.168.2.2 so
it knows the second one is on line

Now connect one with two

this will allow you to use both routers they will see each other and
assign their own computers separate ip's and have diferant control ip's

hope this helps

Thanks for all the work you've put into my problems with the SMCWTVG
Router/ATA. All my previous problems sorted out one way or another,
but after some additional research and found that I should have been
setting up my SMCWTVG as a Wireless Client, not an Access Point. The
big issue I have now is that when I press "Site Survey" to find
networks within the range of the SMWTVG, nothing shows up. I've sent
an email to SMC for tech support and am awaiting a response. Thanks
again for everything.
