Cannot get to all ip addresses over vpn

I have set up a standard VPN server on Win 2003 so I can
connect to my office LAN. The internal IP addres of the
server is 192.168.3.200 - subnet 255.255.252.0.

When I connect from outside, I can get to ip numbers
192.168.3.x but not 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x etc

What am I doing wrong?

TIA,
Dan.

Are you connecting two networks together or just connecting in with a single
standalone client machine?

If it is a single machine then you must have "Use Gateway on Remote Network"
enabled withing the TCP/IP properties of your Dial-up Connection settings.

I am assuming that the dialin VPN user receives an address from 192.168.3.x
when they connect.

If you are connecting two networks together than that is a whole new ball
game.

I'm connecting with a single client machine.

Use g/w on remote is enabled already, and the ip address
i receive (last time anyway) is actually 192.168.0.139

I can't figure it out....

Also, I've noticed when connected if I ping 192.168.3.x
it goes over the VPN connection - but if I ping
192.168.0.x it goes over my LAN !!! Presumably a clue
here - why isn't it sent over the VPN? The remote LAN's
range (subnet 255.255.252.0) is 192.168.0.0 -
192.168.3.255 - so any addresses in this range should be
sent over the VPN????

That is the wrong IP#. It would connect to the first subnet (192.168.3.x)
if the mask was wrong, such as 255.255.0.0. If the mask was correct,
255.255.255.0 then it wouldn't have connected to anything.

Forgetting for a moment about VPN and the system you are dialing into, what
is the normal network config of this workstation? Does it have a NIC?...I
assume so if you have a LAN. What is the IP address range of your own local
LAN?

Sure that is the right mask? Based on your first post, it seems it really
should be 255.255.255.0

Whatever the correct mask really is,..is what the VPN client should receive
when it connects.
