I have spent hours on this but it just won't work. When I try to share my 98
files I get message that "cannot view user list try again later" Only two
computers with a D-Link router and a DSL modem. Network is set for file and
printer sharing, and XP firewall is also set correctly. Help please.

Select share level access to share your files. If you select user
level access, you need another machine on the network (like winNT) to
provide a user list since win98 can't provide its own. With share
level access you just use a password if you want to restrict access.

Jim.

I'd like to add my thanks to James for his solution and to Jim for raising
the matter. I have had the same problem for months and now at last I can
network my XP laptop with my Win98 PC, including remote printing. But now
on boot up I get a box on my PC screen with "REGSERV Remote registry
functionality not enabled.....enable user level security...OK" which I
have to click. I wonder why?
Also it would be nice to have remote control of desktops. I ran the XP
wizard but I can't see how to enable it on the Win98 PC. Any ideas please?

I have a similar problem. Could you tell me where I select share level or
user level access. Is it in Win98 or XP and more precisely what do I do.
