Hi,

I have 2 Windows 2003 standard servers SP1 (server A and server B) in a LAN.
Server A is a file server and a DC, with no firewall.
Server B is a member server with no firewall in the LAN.
When I try to copy *.DOC files from Srver B's console to Server A, i get the
error "The specified location is no longuer available.". I always get this
error. I can successfully copy other file types (rar, xls, etc).
I can also copy DOC files form server A's console to server B.

I' ve shutdown the anti-virus, but didn't work...

Any ideas?
Many thanks
Gilberto Ribeiro

what says the event log?
Check also, if the following KB article hits your problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810907/en-us
Error Messages When You Open or Copy Network Files on Windows XP SP1 Clients
That Require SMB Signing

Even if it is related to clients, the symptoms are looking very similar.
You also can check, if the Group Policies related to Digital signing on both
machines are identical. Take a look in the section
Computer Configuration / Windows Settings / Security Settings / Local
Policies / Security Options.

Domain memberigitally encrypt or sign secure channel data (always)
You can test to set it to deactivated for testing (or check if it is
activated really on both systems).
Microsoft Network (Client): Digitally sign communication (if server agrees)
=> set to activated.
Microsoft Network (Server): Digitally sign communication (if server agrees)
=> set to activated.

Be aware, that a reboot can be required without being explicitly requested
to enable the changed settings.

well I didnt say, that you should disable them all - two of them should be
set to always.
What can you see in the security log of the servers?
The other thing - could it be that the special character in the file name is
causing the issue? (Between - try to avoid binary attachments in the
newsgroups under each circumstances. Ok at least it wasn't a BMP file ... )
Would the copy process run through, if you map a network drive and use xcopy
instead of the Windows Explorer to copy the files?

Best greetings from Germany
Olaf..
