Sounds like the Master Browser Role was stolen by another machine. I have the
Computer Brower service disabled in Group Policy for every machine except my
main 2 DC's. One runs as the master browser and one as the backup browser.
You can try restarting the Computer Browser service on the Windows DC and
see if it takes the master browser role back.
I also use browstat which is sometimes helpful.
The browse list shouldn't affect the way the server operates though. We
rarely use it but we have too many workstations to show up in it so often it
is not accurate.
Cheers,
Lara
