I have a computer running Win98 and I added a network card to use to
connect the computer to my DSL connection. I went in to assign a static
Tcp-ip address and the box opened up but there was no cursor and it
wouldn't accept any numbers or letters that I typed in - almost like it
was disabled. I tried every network card or device in the Network list
and got the same thing. I there a way into the registry and just wipe
out all of the current network settings and devices and start over from
scratch and reinstall the network cards ? thanks...

The problem could be related to video and font settings. If you've
changed any of the Windows display fonts, change them back to the
defaults. Download and install the latest drivers for the computer's
video card. If you can't do it on that computer, use another computer
and write the drivers to a removal medium (floppy, CD, USB thumb
drive, etc).

Thanks for the tips but what I know would work is going into the registry
and deleting certain entries that would wipe out everything in the network
properties box and return everything to default as if windows had been
reloaded again.

I had a tech from one of my previous ISP's walk me thru that in the
windows registry. I didn't save that information, but I do know that that
worked and that is can be done without having reload the entire computer
again.

thanks..

Why does it have to be a static address?

DHCP is not available so it would naturally have to be a static
address....otherwise I would
not be writing this.

thanks...
