Cannot assign static IP on Windows Server 2003 std 64bit

Can anyone tell me why I can't statically assign an IP address to our
Exchange 2007 server? For some reason, after the installation of Exchange
2007 I tried to assign a static IP address but it won't stick. Is there a
simple way of doing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

may be you can do it after stopping some server services.
