Cannot access intranet using servername

Hello,

My PC (WinXP SP2) has 2 NICs, which one is set for internet browsing using a
public IP. And another one is set to 2 IPs to connect to two workgroups in
my office, i.e 192.168.12.0 and 192.168.15.0.

192.168.12.0 is used by a group of PCs (Workgroup A). 192.168.12.1 is their
proxy server running WinNT4 and WinGate. But I don't use the proxy for
internet browsing as I already have my own public IP. However, I still need
to set my IP to 192.168.12.200, as I need to share files with Workgroup A.

192.168.15.0 is my personal workgroup (Workgroup B) consists of my PC
(192.168.15.2) and a webserver (192.168.15.1).

Problem 1:
On my pc, I cannot see the workgroup A name in My Network Places. I can only
see Workgroup B. From Workgroup A, they can see both the names of Workgroup
A & B.

Problem 2:
I can see shared folders of PCs in Workgroup A by their IP address (E.g:
\\192.168.12.121) but not by their PC name (E.g: \\norafizah). The same goes
with pinging. I can ping them using IPs but not pc names. In the other hand,
they can both see my shared folders and ping by both my IP and my PC name.

Problem 3:
I can both open and ping my webserver in Workgroup B from my PC by the IP
and server name. The workgroup B name is listed under Microsoft Windows
Network. The server can also ping and open my PC by both IP and name. The
problem is, I cannot open the website hosted on the server by the name.
(E.g: http://webserver:9999). But this only occurs intermittently. But I can
access it using IP address at all the times.

Please help me anyone. I do not want to resolve by editing the hosts file.

Thanks in advance

This is pretty much the kind of result you can expect if you are trying to
connect a single NIC to two different network segments or you are running
different subnets on the same segment. If this is all one physical segment,
why not give all machines a 192.168.12.x address?

Thank you for your response.

I can't change the Workgroup B IP to 192.168.12.x becos on my PC, all Visual
Interdev 6 and VS.NET solutions connects to the server via 192.168.15.1,
instead of server name. And there's no easy way to change the solutions IP
address. Re-creating new projects for them will be tedious since every each
projects contain huge number of files.

If they must be in different IP subnets, you are out of luck. You can
only browse across routers if you have a domain controller. A domain
controller has the ability to merge browse lists (including workgroups). If
you have no domain controllers, you can only browse to machines which are on
the same segment, because the browse list is built by broadcasts.
