After updating a Vista workstation to SP1 I receive to following message:

"The security database on the server does not have a computer account for
this trust relationship."

The server I am running is SBS 2003 R2, with latest updates. I have removed
the computer in Active Directory and reinstalled it. I still have the same
problem. I can get into the workstation using the Admin account; however I
cannot get in using my standard account that I have been using before the
update.

Thank you for your help,

Steven M Hughins

it could be a group policy issue. Or check this post.

Robert,

There are no GP's setup on this network.

I removed the client from the server and rebooted the unit. Also, rebooted
the client. Same problem, no change.

Other suggestions?

Thank you,

Steven M Hughins

Also check the DNS and WINS (if you have WINS) records to make sure the
hostname and IP match the computer.

We have had a similar issue with joining the domain on Vista SP1 machines.

We don't have a GPO setting the domain suffix, but we DO set the suffix via
DHCP.

Removing this DHCP setting (leaving it blank) has produced encouraging
results so far, although it's early days yet. You may want to give it a try
yourself.

Part of the problem is that it is intermittent - about one in ten tries we
could successfully join a machine to the domain.

Ta,

Ed.
