Cancelling Telewest television service only...comments?

Hello all,

Despite an administrative hiccup last year over the return of a
deposit, Telewest has been good to us for 2 years. The price for their
tri-package beats the competition. Hold times for phone reps are short.

Regardless, our overall TV addiction has waned and I've downgraded to
basic cable @ £5.50 /month. With a Freeview box recently purchased I'm
willing to part with digital cable altogether. It's only SkyOne I'll
miss.

My question is whether anyone has had any success/problems with
cancelling only one Telewest service while maintaining the others? I've
read some internet stories of broadband internet being deactivated by
accident or strong-armed demands for the immediate return of the cable
box (where do you return it to anyway?).

Phone rates are good and my internet speed will be bumped up soon to
4mb. So I'd very much like those two services to go uninterrupted.

Again in my perusals of all things digital telecom, Alex Brown seems to
own the newsgroups in that regard. I'd appreciate any insight from Alex
or any other newsgroupers.

Cheers,

Evan J.

You can drop any services after your initial 12 month contract is up ---
only require 30 days notice . I have dropped the TW TV service with no
problems
Forget AB he is a Techie first and formost not an Admin
there were no "Strong Arm" tactics just hold on to your set-top box untill
they call for it
just get a reciept ( signed)

Sounds painless enough. Thanks Yddap. Do you mind telling what your
reason for dropping TV while keeping other TW services was?

And I realise Alex is a techie, but he was able to push the right admin
buttons in my case. I must give credit where it's due.

Don't know why you think TW phone rates are good. BT has no 6p connection
charge, and you do not even have to use BT. I have just subscribed to a
package where I get free evening and weekend calls for no monthly fee, TW
want £6 for this package. Daytime calls you can use 18866 and pay a flat 2p
for each call. I agree TW offer free weekend calls on the basic package and
BT don't but as said you can get more than that for no fee with Primus or
Just Talk.

20 min evening call
Telewest £0.46
BT £0.055
18866 £0.02
Primus Saver £0.00

If you mean line rental then do not be fooled that TW are giving you a free
line, I have TW and do not have their phone and I therefore pay less for my
TV. TW charge £10.50 for their lines the same as BT. I will admit that there
are some good TW deals when you sign up to them for the first 12 months
after that it is dubious. even if you save a couple of pounds on line rental
you end up paying more than that back with their call charges.

Telewest charge for Caller Display, £4.50 quarter, with BT it's FREE.
After the "first 12 months" you're not a customer, but another mug to
stitch up.

*** w-o-w *** so it is free from BT, but only in recent weeks has that
been the case, since the launch of BT Privacy. There are some apects of
BT network services that aren't too bad (that they bundle 2 to 4 and 5 to 8
instead of charging, say, 1 pound per service. But ACR is FOUR QUID a month!
