Can you share a Scanner?

How have you connected and shared a Scanner like this Visioneer USB on
Windows 98 and connected to it from Windows ME using Ethernet with a Netgear
router. The 2 printers are shared but not the Visioneer Scanner.

Generally, you cannot. The scanner must be designed to be shared as a
network device. But why do you want to? You've gotta put the documents
into it anyway - so scan them into a network folder instead of a local
folder.

In article <##(E-Mail Removed)>, Computer Teachers LLC

Maybe, probably not. I almost got such a share working, once, on an IPX/SPX
network. Didn't get all the way there, though.

Considering that the person scanning a document would have to go to the
scanner to insert the document, then back to the computer to initiate the
scan, then go back to the scanner to retrieve the document, it seems a bit
awkward to share the scanner. Cut the trips in half by scanning the document
at the computer to which the scanner is connected. As Richard suggests, scan
the document to a shared folder. That I have done, successfully, on several
occasions. Put the document in the HP ScanJet IIp connected to my HP
Pavilion 6745C, then scan to a shared folder on another HP Pavilion 6745C.
Saves an extra trip because you only have to walk to the scanner once, and
then back once.
