Can Windows Server 2003 services access mapped drives?

I have a service in Windows Server 2003 starting with the Administrator
account, and the service that is running needs to be able to access a
mapped drive. I've logged in as the Administrator, mapped the drive,
but is that mapped drive valid only for that user session? I expect it
is, but I just need to check.

Is there any way to allow Windows services to access mapped drives?

I attempted this a while ago in relation to our backups.
I mapped the drive the backups were going to as B: and set everything up and
then logged out.
Supprise - backups didn't work.
I ended up just using UNC paths for the backups.

Does your program need a logical drive for it to operate or could it just
use a UNC path?
You may be able to get a script to run on boot that handles this - but I
don't know how that would work.
