Can Win2k3 Standard join an NT4 domain?

We made the mistake of purchasing Win2k3 SBS and found
that it had to be the DC and couldn't trust another
domain. I ran DCPROMO and demoted it, joined the NT4
domain, now I get EventID 1013: "this computer must be
configured as a domain controller". I'm pretty sure that
we wouldn't have this issue with the Standard Edition but
I want to be sure.

TIA,
Rob, MCP

I run a Win2k3 Domain that has a trust with an old NT4 domain. It
works just fine. However it is not SBS and is also running in
Windows2000 Domain Mode becasue there used to be some 2000DCs in it.
I guess SBS could be different, but I'm not sure, I have never touched
SBS.

I think you will find SBS must be the "top" DC - ie it must be the first
server in the domain.

SBS insists on being a DC.

Yes, but he was indicating that it would not trust another Domain,
...not quite the same thing.
