Hi all. There appears to be an answer to this in another newsgroup but
it's not in English so it won't do me much good. :-)
I just purchased a D-Link DL-624 wireless router and a D-Link
DWL-2000AP access point that I planned in running in bridge mode in
order to connect the Xbox down the hall and save my wife from tripping
over ethernet cable again. It wasn't until I read through the access
point's manual that I noticed D-Link claims that under bridge mode the
DWL-2000AP can only connect with other DWL-2000AP. It seems a little
bizarre to me that two D-Link 802.11g products can't properly
communicate with each other when one is set to bridge mode. Seems more
to me like a sleazy way to cause consumers to buy more hardware (and
take up another precious outlet in those surge suppressors). Second, I
don't really trust the manual, as the first thing the quick start
guide tells you is that your PC needs to have a static IP address in
order to connect to the access point to configure it (clearly the
author of the quick start guide had been drinking that day). I've
fiddled around with the settings a bit, making sure the wireless
router and the bridge have the same settings, yet I really can't get
anything I attach to the bridge to pull an IP from the router. I tried
calling D-Link's 24/7 tech support, but apparently they were taking a
nap or something because nobody answers the phone. If anyone has any
suggestions on how to make these two talk, please let me know. If not,
I just return them.
