Can I suppress/eliminate the "Viewing" and or “Access� of the wire

Can I suppress/eliminate the "Viewing" and or “Access� of the wireless
networks associated with my neighbors from my network?

Sometimes my laptop will switch to a weaker signal WLAN from one of my
neighbors all by it's self, resulting in dramatic signal strength drop.

Is WLAN encryption part of the solution?

I run open now with no encryption.

I am at the latest everything from Windows Update on a XP2 OS.

if you turned off ssid broadcast on your access point, turn it back on.
xp's wzc service will drop a non-broadcasting access point in favor of one
that does.
