to be avoid running a webserver on port 80. what would be the most
secure way to go about doing this ? port forwarding ?

Run it on 8080 of is a secure web site 8443

Assuming the http Daemon is on a statically assigned PC @ 192.169.1.100

Forward port TCP port 8080 to 192.169.1.100 in URL http://192.168.1.1/Forward.htm
{ Linksys URL for v1 and v2 Routers. may not be the same in a v3 Router }

Use the URL http://wan_IP_address:8080/

Or subscribe to DynamicDNS.
