I have been trying to figure our how to make 2003 server a simple
router. It seems so cool that I can use windows to do this instead of
a linksys router. But I need step by step help. I just reformatted
with 2003 server because I messed up my last copy so bad. Do I need
NAT, DHCP, and DNS? I there a good guide web site or anything?
Any help would be great thanks.

Look in Help, under RRAS, Routing and Remote Access Service.

I went through what you're going through.
I think the site just tells you how to enable it, unless I
didn't see the other site.

Just remember that you need to configure it like a wan -
lan. The built-in nat doesn't provide dns, at lease not
for me, so i ended up using multiple dhcp in 1 site. Now
that i think about it, it's like a broadband router.

The setup wizard will step you through the options available. But why
would you want to do it if you already have a router? Doesn't your server
have anything else to do?

The Linksys router is actually a NAT/PAT device versus a traditional network
to network router. You can use Routing and Remote Access Management Console
to enable and configure the server to be a router or use NAT which is
probably what you are referring to. See the links below for more specific
info and yes you will need to configure DCHP and DNS also. --- Steve

Linksys? Are you dealing with NAT or standard routing,...they are not the
same thing.

If you want to use 2003 in its place and it is really a NAT Device providing
the Internet connection, then you need to replace the Linksys box with a
*simple* DSL/Cable Modem (has no IP#) and the Server fills the role of
performing NAT.

If the Linksys is just a regular LAN Router, then 2003 would be configured
as a router and there is no need to buy anything else.

The process is the same between 2000 and 2003. These articles are about two
different things,...they are not the same thing.
