I don't know about where you are, but in Canada you can send e-mail to cell
phones.

i have a spare cell phone connected to my linux box via serial port. i use it to
send messages to mobile phones. gammu/gnokii is your friend.

you may also check if the recipient's cell provider supports e-mail to sms
feature, not all of them do.

Best regards
Adam

The cell phone companies have an domain for their customers. In my case,
it's pcs.rogers.com. So to send a message to cell phone user, the e-mail
address would be in the form of 123-456-(E-Mail Removed), using the cell
phone number, in place of 123-456-7890.

James,

Thanks for the Input, We could send the messages to mobiles from
emails...
But when we use the same 'mail' command in the Linux Box.
we could receive it to the other accounts, but we could not receive it
to the mobile .
Please suggest me..regarding this issue.
Thanks once again..
Thank You,
P.Udaya Bhaskar

My mobile phone has no internet or e-mail. But I can send text messages
to it by going to the website of my mobile phone company and sending my
phone a text message with "any" web browser. I imagine a Perl script
using LWP module would work as well, once you figure out the sequence of
web pages.

I cannot speak for outside the U.S., but in the U.S., you can send a
text message via e-mail to most cell phones. Specific information is
available from each providers' web site, but for example on Cingular,
you can use:

(E-Mail Removed)

where the digits are replaced by the recipient's full 10 digit phone
number (without spaces or hyphens, etc.). The length of the message can
generally be in the range of 100-120 characters.

To the best of my knowledge, a cell phone's receiving messages via this
approach is independent of having internet, web and/or e-mail service on
the cell phone. You may or may not be able to reply to the sender's
e-mail address of course and this may be dependent upon a particular
service provider and how their text messaging service operates.

HTH,

Some cell phone systems accept regular e-mail to SMS phones. For example,
on my carrier I could send a message to (E-Mail Removed) (assume
valid phone number for 1234567890).
