I'm trying to connect my desktop and an HP OmniBook 4150B laptop via an
Ethernet LAN. Both computers are running Win 98SE. The laptop sees
everything on the desktop -- files, printers, the works. The desktop sees
the laptop, but not its files. Why? File sharing is installed and
activated on both systems. I've reconfirmed this multiple times. I'm using
TCP/IP protocol on both systems. The laptop has a Xircom CreditCard
Ethernet 10/100+Modem 56 adapter (I mention this because it may be
important). The desktop is using a Microsoft MN-130 Ethernet card. Both
computers are connected through a Microsoft switch.

You'd never know from reading books, instruction manuals, etc., that you have to
explicitly enable sharing of the C: drive (or others you may want to access) on
each computer in the network. This is in addition to setting up file sharing in
the network set-up screens (everybody mentions this). When I read a passing
comment in one of the Microsoft "Knowledge Base" documents, my problem was
solved. BTW, both computers are set to TCP/IP protocol. Thanks for reading my
post.
