Can't ping XP Computer with SP2
By default, SP blocks ping from other computers. To enable it, open Windows Firewall. Select Advanced and click Settings on ICMP. Check the Allow incoming echo request.

I recommend Brinkster for web hosting!

Our NT4 domain has a few servers plus twenty or so XP workstations. Only
recently did I notice that most of them can't be pinged from either the
PDC or another workstation. Here is what I get after typing in the "ping
computername" command. "Pinging computername [IP address] with 32 bytes
of data: Request timed out." But when I do "net view", all the computers
are listed. I cannot tell if there is any difference between those that
can be pinged and the ones that don't respond. All the workstations have
SP2 and are able to access the servers and printers.
Thank you for help!
